Mixed Media ICAD 2023

I can hardly believe mixed media ICAD is upon us again and one week from today ICAD officially begins. If you aren’t familiar with what ICAD is, I will give you a brief overview now, but you can read up more on ICAD and mixed media ICAD HERE.

ICAD stands for Index Card A Day and it was created by Tammy Garcia as an art prompt challenge. In 2020 after participating in ICAD in 2019 I decided I needed more mixed media-based prompts. So, I created my own prompts and shared them with everyone on my social media platforms. They were a hit. Many people use both sets of prompts, Tammy’s original ICAD prompts for the given year and my mixed media-based prompts. Some people choose one out of the two. Either way ICAD is a phenomenal way of doing a small bit of art daily. It is wonderful for your art practice and if you follow the hashtags incredibly inspiring!

One week in advanced I will always post the next weeks prompts. This allows you to get organized and not feel the pressure of what is to come. This year I will be posting the prompts and my daily MMICAD’s to my Instagram feed. You can follow me HERE. I will also be attempting to get as many days on video as possible and be uploading them to my YouTube Channel. If you decide to play along, please share your creations using the hashtag #mmicad2023 , I’d love to see what you're doing with the prompts.

I am learning to allow myself to create GARBAGE. I can recycle it into something shiny later. or not.

Sixty one days is a lot of time to set aside to art daily, film it, edit it, photograph it and publish it. As a result, my goal in doing mixed media ICAD each year is to utilize these daily periods of time to really investigate and explore how my supplies work together. What makes interesting and inspiring marks, reactions and results. From these explorations I take those that inspire me the most back to my art table to explore more. Mixed Media ICAD is my method of trying things, sorting through them and notating the results for future yummy works.

Here are some of my favorite mixed media ICAD’s from 2022

Below are links to the past years MMICAD YouTube Playlists. Not all years did I film, such as in 2019. Some years I only filmed some days of play. This year I’m trying to film each day and post them onto my YouTube channel.
